Cross-Connection and Backflow Prevention Control

The Town of Lovettsville strives to provide the best water service possible to all its users and must meet all requirements set forth by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). Virginia Water Works Regulations require all water systems in the State of Virginia have an effective Cross Connection Control Program to protect the public drinking water supply.

Cross connections within the public water supply are a serious concern, as they can allow contaminants or pollutants to enter the public water system through what is called “backflow.” Backflow occurs when a drop in water pressure to the Town’s water distribution system causes water to be pulled back from private facilities into the Town distribution system.  This can cause contaminated or polluted water to flow back into the Town’s drinking water.  Even a dripping garden hose left in a bucket of dirty water can become a cross connection danger.

Loudoun Water has graciously allowed the Town of Lovettsville to follow their Cross Connection/Backflow Prevention Control Program.Click Here for more information about the Program.
