Lovettsville Independence Day Celebration - Saturday, July 3, 2010
The Lovettsville Community Center invites you to join them in celebrating Independence Day (a day early) in Lovettsville.  The Parade will begin at 5:30 PM at the Community Center and travel along East Broad Way to the Lovettsville Elementary School.  There will be family fun activities and refreshments at the Community Center beginning at 6:00 PM.  Jake & the Burtones and Connor Duffy will provide live entertainment from 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM.  The fireworks will begin at 9:15 PM. Budget and Capital Improvement Plan Public Hearing: May 20, 2010
The Town Council will hold a public hearing to recieve comment on the proposed FY 2011 Operating and Capital Budget along with the Capital Improvement Plan.  The meeting begins at 8:00p.m. at the Lovettsville Town Hall.

Public Information Meeting: Opportunity For “Historic District” Recognition for Lovettsville
Lovettsville has an extraordinary opportunity to obtain funding (in these days of tight budgets), to conduct an architectural and historical survey of the older part of the Town, in order to prepare a nomination to place the older section of the Town on the National Register of Historic Places, and also on the Virginia Landmarks Register.  The Lovettsville Historical Society, the Town of Lovettsville and the Lovettsville Business Association are sponsoring a public information session to explain what this would mean to the Town, and to gather input from the Town.  Please plan to attend this important Town meeting.

Protect your Property!
You may have noticed the Sheriff's Office sign coming into Town from the south.  This message is to remind you to lock your vehicles and property secure your valuables.  There have been several occurrences in Lovettsville over the past several weeks were purses and electronics have been taken from unlocked cars.  Please take proactive steps to make sure you are protected.  If you see any suspicious activity please report it immediately to the Sheriff's Office.

Business Licenses - All business needed to have 2010 Licenses by March 1, 2010
All businesses located within the Town of Lovettsville needed to have a valid 2010 Business License by March 1, 2010.  This includes home based businesses.  Click here to download an application for an in-town business.
Construction trades with offices located outside of Lovettsville but doing work within the Town are also required to obtain a 2010 business license.  There is no license fee for companies billing less than $25,000 within the Town limits. Click

H1N1 Vaccination Update 
The Virginia Department of Health is now recommending that all Virginians get the H1N1 vaccination.  The VDH website (www.vdh.virginia.gov) lists specific locations, dates, and times when the vaccinations are available.  You may also call 1-877-ASK-VDH3.  The vaccine is available at no cost at local health departments.  There may be up to a $19.96 administrative fee charged at some other vaccination sites.

Town Lantern Parade & Tree Lighting - December 4, 2009
Meet at the Community Center at 7:30pm for the walk from the Center to the Town Square with your lantern (bring your own or make one at the workshop).  You can also meet directly at the Square for the annual Town Tree Lighting (around 7:45pm).  Everyone is invited to this Lovettsville tradition.  Students from Lovettsville Elementary School will sing seasonal songs and light refreshments will be served. (Event Co-Sponsored by the Town of Lovettsville and the Lovettsville Community Center) 

Lantern Making Workshop - December 4, 2009 (6:30 to 7:15)

Community Thanksgiving Service - Tuesday, November 24, 2009
The Lovettsville community will hold a Community Thanksgiving Service at the Fire House.  The service begins at 7:30pm.

Lovettsville Celebrates Arbor Day

Town Treasurer Earns Distinguished Certification
Congratulations to Town Treasurer Lance Gladstone on earning his Master Governmental Treasurer certification!  This certification reflects a three year effort, involving coursework, exams and instructional training.  The program is jointly administered by the University of Virginia - Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia for the purpose of professional development of treasurers throughout the Commonwealth.

New Town Meadows Hydrant Flushing - Friday, July 24

The Town of Lovettsville will be flushing hydrants in the New Town Meadows neighborhood this Friday morning (07-24-09) starting around 8:00AM.  Water users in New Town Meadows may experience temporary cloudy water during the times of the flushing.  This is not harmful, but could potentially discolor laundry.  It is recommended that residents of New Town Meadows refrain from heavy water use or the washing of laundry during the morning hours.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact Town Hall at 540- 822-5788.

School Board has Selected School Sites North of Route Nine
The Loudoun County School Board has selected school sites near Nixon and John Wolford Road for further study and possible acquisition.  The total land area would support an elementary, middle and high school that would serve northwestern Loudoun County.

Events Committee
The Lovettsville Town Council is looking for volunteers to serve on the newly formed Events Committee.  This committee will be responsible for organizing activities such as Oktoberfest, concerts in the park, the Town tree lighting, and many other special community events.  This is a great opportunity for those to want to get involved in the community without a significant long term time commitment.  You can select the event or events that you would like to help with and how involved you would like to be.  If you have more questions please contact the Town Office at 540-822-5788.  Once you fill out an application (just so we can have your contact information – no prior experience is needed), you will be contacted by the Town with further details.

Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee:
Would you like to help plan for the long term growth and development of Lovettsville?  The Town Council is looking for dedicated citizens and business owners to server with the Lovettsville Planning Commission as the Town reviews and amends the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.  The commitment requires approximately one year of service with one to two night meetings per month.  If you are interested please contact the Town Office at 540-822-5788 or fill out an application and return it to the Town Office.

Sherriff's Office Reminder
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to lock their vehicles when parked in front of their homes.  It is especially important to remove all valuables including computers, purses, GPS & satellite radio devices when vehicles are parked.

“Movie on the Green” Season Begins this Friday Night (05-08-09)
Bring your family and a blanket to the first movie of the summer series this Friday night with a showing of the baseball film, “The Rookie”, starting Dennis Quaid.  The movie will be shown in the Town Green (In the Town Center development -near the Town Square) and is FREE to the public.  Snacks will be sold by the Community Center.  The Town and Community Center are co-sponsoring the event.  Come early to picnic on the lawn. (Movies are the second Friday of every month –Rain location is the Lovettsville Community Center)

Events Commission By-Laws Approved (Click here to download By-Laws)
The Town Council voted unanimously this past Thursday night to adopt the Events Commission by-laws.  The next step is for the Mayor and Town Council to appoint the Board of Directors for the Events Commission.  Once appointed, the various seasonal work groups can begin organizing and planning activities. The Oktoberfest Committee will now be known as the "Fall Work Group" and will have their next meeting on Monday May 4, 2009 at 7:30p.m. at Town Hall.  Council members will be in attendance to explain the Events Commission framework and help with the election of officers for the Fall Work Group.  All are welcome to attend the meeting. Deputy Lambert Thanked for Service to Lovettsville
Town Council honored Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Lambert at their Council meeting on October 22.  Deputy Lambert was the Town’s Community Policing Officer for the past two years.  This past summer he took a new position within the department.  The Mayor presented Tim with a certificate of appreciation for his hard work and service to the Lovettsville community.

Two New Planning Commissioners Appointed
Town Council has appointed two new Planning Commissioners to serve on the Commission bringing the total number of Commissioners to seven.  Council made the decision to expand by one member to fill the seat left vacant by the Town Council liaison and to reduce the possibility of a tie vote.  The two new members are Elaine Fischer, who will be filling the unexpired seat of DiJon Jones who was recently appointed to Council, and Joanne Cooper, who will be filling the Liaison seat.  
 
 

New Planning Commissioner Appointed
Congratulations to Lorraine Bauer on her recent appointment to the Lovettsville Planning Commission; she will be filling the unexpired seat of Charlotte Coleman, who was recently appointed to the Town Council.

As part of the construction of North Church Street and the new Post Office, the Town will be connecting a new segment of water supply pipe into the water distribution system.  To make this new connection, it is possible that water service will be interrupted to properties in the older part of Town to the east of Berlin Pike this coming Monday night, beginning at 11:00 PM and ending at 5:00 AM Tuesday morning. (Areas include E. Broad Way, Pennsylvania Avenue, S. Loudoun Street between E. Broad Way and Locust St., Frye Court, Park Place, Light Street) This work is being done at night to minimize the inconvenience to Town residents and businesses.  If you live in the areas listed above, please plan on being without water service during this time. When water service is restored, you may notice some discoloration of the water. Please try running the cold water for several minutes and if it does not clear up, call 540-454-9750 for assistance. Town Mowing Contract Out For Bid
The Town is accepting mowing bids for the 2009 growing season. Qualified firms can contact the Town Manager for more information or download the Request for Quotation and Town Contract Documents and Appendix A: Site Locations.  Bids will be accepted through Thursday, March 26, 2009.

Planning Commission Vacancy – Apply Today!

With the appointment of Commissioner Coleman to the Town Council, there is an opening on the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission typically meets two times per month to discuss planning and zoning related maters. The Commission works closely with the Town Council to assist in development issues. No prior training is necessary in order to serve, but you must live within the corporate limits of Lovettsville. The Lovettsville Town Hall will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2009 in honor of President's Day.

Western Flyer Trolley Ribbon Cutting
The Ribbon Cutting for the Virginia Regional Transit Trolley (The Western Flyer) will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 10:00a.m.  at the Purcellville Town Hall.  The Trolley will begin service on Wednesday, February 18 and will run between the MARC station in Brunswick, MD and Purcellville.  There will be several stops in Lovettsville.  Once in Purcellville, riders can transfer to other buses runing to Leesburg and points east. (posted 02/13/09)

New Council Member Appointed
Congratulations to DiJon Jones on his recent appointment to the Lovettsville Town Council; he will be filling the unexpired seat of Richard Efthim.  Until his council appointment, Mr. Jones served as the Vice Chairman of the Planning Commission.   He and his family live in the Kingsridge neighborhood.

Screen on the Green a Big Success!
Cool autumn temperatures didn’t keep over 75 residents from enjoying the Town’s first ever “Screen on the Green” movie night.  The Halloween themed event featured the classic Don Knotts movie “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken”.  Special thanks to the Lovettsville Community Center for their support.  The Town plans on hosting monthly movies early next summer.  Movie survey coming soon!

Lovettsville Christkindlmarkt - December 6, 2008
For the first time a Christkindlmarkt will be held in Lovettsville. The Lovettsville German Society, Inc. is hosting a traditional German style Christmas market, with a Lovettsville flavor.  The Christkindlmarkt will be held at the Lovettsville Game Protective Club on Berlin Turnpike on Saturday, December 6th, from 11 am to 7 pm with the rain date of Saturday, December 13th.

A Christkindlmarkt is a festive open air German market that is held to mark the beginning of the Christmas season.  Food such as wurst (sausage) and kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes), hot beverages of Gluhwein(mulled wine) and Kinder punch (spiced juices), Christmas decorations, gifts, crafts and special Christmas foods are available for purchase by patrons. Vehicle Decals on Sale Now! (Must be on your car by November 15, 2008)
For the first time ever, the Town will be mailing vehicle registration forms to residents. Everyone who has registered a vehicle with the Town within the last year will receive a form in the mail. Please read, make any corrections, sign and mail the form back with your payment to Town Hall. Once it is confirmed that all current Loudoun County personal property taxes have been paid, your 2009 sticker will be mailed to you. If you are new to Lovettsville, or have recently purchased a vehicle, please visit Town Hall at 6 East Pennsylvania Avenue to have your vehicle registered with the Town. Coleman Selected for Town Council
The Town of Lovettsville would like to congratulate Charlotte Coleman on her appointment to Town Council. Ms. Coleman was selected to complete the unexpired term of Michele Engel, who resigned the position earlier this summer. Ms. Coleman has been a longtime resident of Lovettsville and most recently served as the senior member of the Lovettsville Planning Commission.

Lovettsville's Oktoberfest! - September 26-28, 2008 (Click Here to Learn More) 
The Town of Lovettsville will be celebrating its annual Oktoberfest Celebration the weekend of September 26-28. The celebration starts Friday night with an authentic German dinner at the Community Center with traditional Bavarian dancing. Dance into the evening under the main tent while the Loudoun Jazz Ensemble performs.

On Saturday the streets of downtown will be closed to allow for venders to set up along East Broad Way and North Light Street. A wide variety of foods including traditional German favorites and great German beer will be available. The main stage will host performances throughout the day, with the signature event being the Alte Kameraden Band and the Alpine Dancers all afternoon. The music continues into the evening with a variety of bands.

On Sunday a non-denominational church service will be held under the main tent. The weekend’s activities conclude with a wide variety of musical performances from some of the Communities younger residents.

Water Theft - Week of June 30, 2008

The Sign Committee is currently in the process of reviewing the Town’s current sign ordinance.   The committee will present their recommendations to the Planning Commission by this July. The committee is comprised of the Mayor, two representatives from the Planning Commission, two representatives from the Town Council, one representative from the Lovettsville Business Association, one representative from Elm Street Development (Town Center), and Town Staff.  If you have any issues or recommendations for the committee to review, please provide them in writing to the Town Manager. Proposed Changes to Light Industrial District:
The Lovettsville Planning Commission is currently exploring the possibility of modifying the Town’s existing Light Industrial zoning district.  These changes would add several new uses and remove others.  It would also change the requirement related to buffers/screening, public hours of operation, along with lot setback and size requirements.  The goal is to develop a zoning district that provides additional protection to surrounding residential uses, while also promoting economic objectives that are outlined in the Town Plan.  The Town Council and Planning Commission will hold a joint public hearing on this issue on January 9th at the Lovettsville Town Hall at 7:30 p.m.  Click here to see a full copy of the proposed zoning amendment text.

Wellhead Protect Program funded through a generous grant from the DEQ
Lovettsville was just awarded a grant totaling $53,000 from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to fund a second year of wellhead protection projects aimed at protecting the Town’s water supply. Lovettsville was one of only three localities throughout the Commonwealth that received this funding!

The Lovettsville Town Council Meeting Scheduled for Tonight - May 22, 2008 - has been CANCELLED. 
The meeting has been rescheduled for next Thursday, May 29, 2008, to begin immediately after the Public Hearing already scheduled for that evening.  (posted on 05/22/08)

Lovettsville School Meeting (Click here for County News Release)
On Wednesday, May 28th, 2008 at 7pm at the Lovettsville Elementary School located at 49 South Loudoun Street in Lovettsville, a community meeting will be held to discuss the latest developments regarding the status of the proposed elementary school (ES-25) scheduled for opening in Fall of 2012, the middle school (MS-10) scheduled for opening Fall of 2015, and the High School (HS-10) scheduled for opening Fall of 2017, that will serve Lovettsville and the surrounding areas.

Members of the community are urged to attend to get an update on the status of these future schools and provide input into this process. (posted 05/15/08)

Waterline Flushing Scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2008 (1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.)
The Town will be flushing the waterlines throughout the Town on Friday, April 25, 2008, between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.  The annual flushing of waterlines is necessary to remove iron, and manganese that can build up in the pipes.  During the flushing the Town asks that residents reduce water usage, however water service will still be available.  After the flushing you may temporarily experience discolored water; if so, run you COLD water for several minutes until the water clears.  If you have any questions, please contact the Lovettsville Town Hall. Business License - Must Have 2008 Business License By March 1, 2008
All businesses located in the corporate limits of Lovettsville must have a valid 2008 Business License by March 1, 2008.  This includes home based businesses.  Click here to download an application for in-town businesses.

Construction trades with offices located outside of Lovettsville, but doing work within the Town are also required to obtain a 2008 Business License. There is no license fee for companies doing $25,000 or less in work in Lovettsville.  Click here to download an application for an out-of-town contractor’s business license. Town Welcomes a New Project Manager: 
The Town of Lovettsville would like to welcome Karin Fellers as the Project Manager for the Town’s Capital Projects.  Karin brings a wealth of utility systems knowledge and project management experience to this position.  Her major areas of focus over the next year will be on the Town’s Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion, Inflow and Infiltration remediation, and Town Transportation and Streetscape Plan. Water Leak Repair
The Town will be repairing a small water leak along Park Place this Thursday, February 14.  There may be brief water service disruption for residents living along Park Place during the day as the repair is made. (Posted 02-13)

 ****Town Council Meeting for January 17, 2008 has been Canceled****
Due to the weather, the Town Council meeting scheduled for 8:00p.m. has been canceled.  The agenda for tonight's meeting will be considered at the Town Council meeting scheduled for January 24, 2008 at 8:00p.m.  (posted 1/17)

Christmas Tree Removal
Christmas trees will be picked up as part of regularly scheduled garbage pickup on Wednesday, January 2nd and Wednesday, January 9th.  Please remove all ornaments and tinsel and do not bag the tree.  If you are putting your tree out after January 9th, please call Town Hall at 540-822-5788 to schedule pickup.

Town Receives Safety Grant
Lovettsville received a $500 Safety Grant from the Virginia Municipal League to help fund the purchase of work area safety signs for the Town.

High Winds Cause Damage/Cell Phone & Internet Service  Disruption
The high winds over the past two days have caused a power outage at the Town’s elevated water tank that is affecting a number of cellular phone providers along with Loudoun Wireless.  This is the reason that you may be experiencing low signal strength on your cellular phone.  Dominion Power is aware of the outage and is expected to make the repairs before Tuesday morning. Planning Commission Meeting Canceled for Tonight (12-05-07) 
The regular meeting of the Planning Commission, scheduled for tonight, has been moved to next Wednesday (12-12-07) at 7:30p.m.  

Town Tree Lighting and Lantern Parade (December 7, 2007)
Be part of a Lovettsville tradition by participating in the annual German lantern making workshop at the Lovettsville Community Center on December 7th from 6:00p.m. to 7:15p.m. ($8 fee for hotdog dinner and lantern making supplies). At 7:30 join the parade from the Community Center as the lanterns are carried to the Town Square for the official holiday tree lighting at 7:45.  The evening concludes with carol signing and refreshments. Town Hall Open House for Residents of Kingsridge
On December 1, 2007 the Town will be hosting the second in a series of Town Hall “Open Houses” for the neighborhoods within the Lovettsville Community.  This open house is for residents of the Kingsridge neighborhood.  Residents are encouraged to stop by the Town Hall between 10:00a.m. and 12:00 noon for refreshments and to meet members of the town government and learn more about upcoming town projects. Flag Dedication in Town Square
The Town of Lovettsville, in cooperation with the Lovettsville-Waterford Ruritan Club, will be holding a Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, November 12, at 12:00 Noon, in the Lovettsville Town Square.  The Ruritan Club has donated a United States Flag and Flag Pole to the Town Square in honor of veterans of all wars.  Former Senator Charlie Waddell will be the keynote speaker for the event.  

Vehicle decals for 2008 are now available at the Town Hall.
The vehicle decal license is $25. All Town and County real estate and personal property taxes must be paid before you can purchase a decal. Please remember to bring your vehicle registration card with you. You may also purchase a decal by mail. Please send a copy of your vehicles registration card, payment, along with a self addressed stamped envelope. We will process your request and mail you your decal. New decals must be displayed by November 15, 2007.

Town Council to Meet with County Officials to Talk about Schools *Meeting Location Change*
The Town Council will meet with members of the County Board of Supervisors and County School Board to discuss issues related to the possibility of locating new schools in the Lovettsville area.  This meeting will be held on October 25 at the Lovettsville Community Center at 6:00 p.m.  The public is welcome to observe the meeting, but this will not be a public hearing.  The Town Council will hold the next public input session on November 1, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lovettsville Community Center to receive public comment on this issue.

School Information: On Tuesday, July 24 a public meeting was held at the Lovettsville Elementary School to discuss future schools in the Lovettsville area. Click here to view a copy of the presentation that was created by the Loudoun County Public School System and shared with the community and the Lovettsville Town Council at that meeting.  The Lovettsville Town Council hosted a community meeting on August 20, 2007 at the Lovettsville Fire House to discuss the possible locations of future schools that may be built in the Lovettsville area.  The meeting focused on the information provided by the Loudoun County School Board at their public meeting in Lovettsville on July 24.  Survey forms were filled out by those who attended the meeting.  The survey was also available on the Town's website after the meeting.  The Town plans on reviewing the survey data and will then schedule a community meeting to take more public comment.
