From the Mayor’s Message:
June 4, 2020 Town Elections

This week, still has many moving parts for the upcoming Town Election. At 4:09PM today, I was notified that the Supreme Court has accepted our petition to move the Town Election past the Governor’s Order of May 19th. The Town of Lovettsville Election is now currently scheduled for June 4th, 2020.

In last week’s email, I laid out the options for the election. Yesterday, we petitioned the Supreme Court of Virginia to postpone the May general election to June 4th, the maximum they can postpone the election. This is what was just approved this afternoon. We will still be petitioning the Governor and General Assembly to hold a Special Session to move the election to later in June. This will hopefully continue to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and still allow for normally scheduled terms to end at the end of the Town’s fiscal year, June 30.

In the meantime, we are not sure if the Absentee Voting Deadlines will be pushed out further (but I personally hope so). You can still vote through absentee and the votes will still count towards the election in June.
• Mail in Absentee Request deadline is currently May 12, 2020 by 5 pm
• In Person Absentee Voting has been extended to Saturday, May 16, 2020

For Mail in Absentee Ballots, a ballot will be sent to you by mail within three days of receiving and approving your application. Please ensure your application is complete. Applications missing required information may be denied. Absentee voters are also reminded to allow sufficient time to receive and return your voted ballot, allowing for possible postal delays. Do not delay in requesting or submitting your ballot. There have been a significant number of ballots that have mailed out, however there are still many that have not been returned.
