Description
PJM Interconnection LLC is the regional electrical grid operator for 13 states including Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. They have estimated a need to double the electrical transmission capacity to Virginia and Maryland by 2035, due to high demand growth in Loudoun and elsewhere.
PJM has selected solutions that necessitate the construction of a new 765-kilovolt (kV) transmission line extending roughly 260 miles from West Virginia to a substation near Point of Rocks, Maryland. The project is referred to as the Valley North Project. A 765 kV transmission line can deliver enough electricity to power the equivalent of 2.0 million homes.
Valley Link Transmission Company LLC is the consortium of three companies chosen to complete the Valley North Project. Over the summer, they will be holding community meetings, conducting surveys, and meeting with local officials to evaluate alternative transmission line routes through western Loudoun County. Lovettsville sits adjacent to an existing transmission corridor that is one of the likely routes.
